May Artist of the Month
Ruth has been a valued member of Gallery 302 since 2020 and lives in Bridgton with her husband Russell who is an avid hiker and lawyer and has been practicing law in Bridgton since 1983. She also plays Mahjong weekly and has tournament wins under her belt. She is still thinking about Mahjong-themed felting projects. Stay tuned!

In her own words, get to know Ruth some more
1) What inspires your work right now?
Animals, especially ones from children’s literature.
2) What themes or ideas are you exploring in your current work?
The sculptural properties of wool.
3) What is your favorite piece in this feature and why?
Ringo. Because once a fan Beatle, always a Beatle fan.
4) What artists (past or present) influence you?
Johannes Vermeer, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Georgia O’Keefe. Ask me tomorrow, and I might have a different list.
5) What do you hope viewers feel or take away from your work?
Joy. I frequently receive feedback about how happy a new owner is as they purchase the piece. I also enjoy commissions!
6) What is one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I studied ceramics with Franz Wildenhain at the School for American Craftsmen and could produce perfectly pouring teapots.
Besides being a contributing artist at Gallery 302, Ruth is also a demonstrating artist and instructor at various Sheep and Wool Festivals. Her next gig is New Hampshire Sheep and Wool Festival May 9th & 10th. Ruth, always the multitasker, listens to at least three audio books per week (mostly fiction) while felting, knitting, or galavanting!
