The Colors of Vincent Van Gogh

Date: June 25 (Tuesday), 1 pm - 4 pm

Description: Children will learn a little about the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh, and create a colorful landscape of tulip fields in his bold and expressive style. They will learn landscape drawing techniques using lines and shapes, near/far, and simple perspective. Then they will mix primary colors to make secondary colors to paint the landscape, using brush strokes to add texture and excitement to the scene.
We will take a break in the middle for a snack and to read a short book about Van Gogh. Please make us aware of any food allergies on your registration form.

The Nature of Georgia O'Keeffe
Instructor: Kathy Greene
Date: July 23 (Tuesday), 1 pm - 4 pm

Description: Children will learn a little about Georgia O'Keeffe, an important pioneer in modern art and women as artists. They will learn about drawing a natural object while looking at it (I'll have flowers, skulls, leaves, shells, etc. for them to choose from). They will draw the main subject BIG, and using warm and cool color families, paint the subject in one family and the background in the other family. They will learn about drawing an object using lines, shapes, and texture; warm and cool color families; contrast and emphasis in their artwork; and intermediate painting techniques.

Fundamentals of Painting and Drawing
Instructor: Phyllis Tracy
Date: August 6 (Tuesday), 1 pm - 4 pm

Description: Paint an Apple . We will explore the Color Wheel and discover what colors to mix to get the colors you want in your painting. Tools to use to help identify all the different shades of red in the apple. Understand the terms Hue, Value through worksheets to give students an understanding of the language of color.
