Pretty Jewelry for Pretty People
Kyra began her metalsmithing career after taking an Adult Continuing Ed class at MECAD many years ago. "They let me play with fire!!" she told her husband after the first class.
Under her mentor Pauline Warg she learned most of the techniques she still employs today. But the best advice Pauline gave her was "Now go learn from others because there's always more than one way to accomplish a task." Best advice! From there she found her stride by learning from well-known experts; taking classes, workshops, and "Art Camp" (usually a week long workshop without any responsibilities except learning!) covering many techniques in metal smithing and enameling. Kyra feels this helped her hone her skills into what she produces in present day; always striving to achieve a better level of work.
She works primarily in silver - Sterling (.925), Argentium (.940, ARG), Fine (.999) but uses gold, gold-filled, brass & copper as well as semi-precious stones, pearls, and enamel to bring color into her pieces.
Kyra has a studio in her home in the western mountains of Maine where she feels her creative juices flow freely and draws inspiration from them as well as her love of gardening, nature and geometry.
"I love making pretty jewelry
and hope everyone who wears my creations feels pretty"!
