ACRYLIC + PASTEL
"I am an artist of many years. I have been painting since childhood when I was lucky enough to be sent to children's summer school programs at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. I have been formally trained in college and have a BA in studio Art. I then studied for two years in Florence, Italy and obtained an MA in sculpture.
I have been painting in NH and Maine since the 70s. The endless inspiration for landscapes captured my artistic soul. The colors of nature are astounding. I try to capture its beauty as it shifts with the light of day and the seasons.
I presently work in acrylic on canvas or canvasboard, but am fluent in pastel and watercolor. The acrylic allows for rapid drying and spontaneous changes as the light shifts with the passage of time I work rapidly building layers of paint starting from dark tones to light, using opaque layers as well as transparent layers. Each painting is an adventure in creativity, taking on its own direction as I paint. I prefer to start painting “en plein air”, then finish in studio, weather permitting.
My paintings are finished with a UV resistant varnish as an extra precaution against light damage although acrylics have a very high permanence rating."
