OILS

"My love for color and painting started early while growing up in the picturesque Hudson Valley in Upstate New York. I  spent most of childhood outdoors both observing and interacted with Nature.  If not up in a tree, I could be found near the water, in absolute awe of my surroundings; air, wind, water and earth seem supercharged with light and color.  I felt as if I was a traveler in my own back yard, falling for those hyper-charged colors I saw everywhere and still strive to recreate today.

I received my BFA in Painting from the State University of New York at Albany in 1997.  I admire Artists such as Vincent Van Gough, Monet, Wassily, Kandinsky and Edward Hoppers to name a few, because of their mastery of supercharged color.  I love to travel to new places and still love to immerse myself in Nature.  My interactions with the outsoors observing Nature, color, light and the emotion it evokes are what I recreate in my studio with oil paints.

Today, I create artwork in my studio spaces in Bridgton, Maine and Beverly, Massachussetts. I use supercharged colors in my oil paintings, creating a sort of postcard of a travel memory that keep those memories alive. First, I start by taking a lot of reference pictures at different times of day (sunrise/late day/sunset), I do several sketches from my photo references in graphite until I'm happy with the compostion.  Sometimes, I'll apply a color wash to the surface to create depth, tone and movement.  Then I build layers with glazed finishes that help give the work breath."
