Pat Chandler: ON PORTRAITURE
Pat has been doing portraiture professionally since the late 1950's. During her career, she has continually sought to learn and to improve her technical skill while adhering to a traditional approach.
Portraiture is one of the most ancient artistic forms. People have sought to honor and remember those they love with images of them. These images then become family heirlooms. For those reasons and others, Pat approaches each and every commissioned portrait with great seriousness and respect. She is honored that she has now done commissioned portraits of two and three generations in some families. Having an ongoing relationship with many of those families is immeasurably rewarding.
Pat has also taught workshops and classes in portraiture off and on throughout the years. She sees portraiture as a specialized interest, therefore, for artists who have interest in studying the human being objectively. The interplay of subjectivity and objectivity makes portraiture an absorbing practice.
Cindy Spencer is passionate about the way transparent watercolors mingle and loves to allow them the freedom to flow. Our beautiful surroundings inspire her to set up her easel, to paint and to experiment. The goal of Cindy's workshops is to have students learn techniques and concepts that can be transferred to their future paintings, rather than focus on the product of each workshop. Cindy has recently begun teaching watercolor workshops in Portland, Bridgton and in North Conway, NH.
