Small is beautiful too! Every May, Gallery 302 invites its artists to submit works in their chosen mediums for its annual Miniature Show. Conforming to strict size specifications, the pieces in the exhibit represent a wide variety of both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art.Any given show might include, for example, diminutive paintings, pottery or ceramics, glass and metal sculptures, basketry, wood, and jewelry. The work is juried and prizes are awarded. Molly Mains coordinates this show.
This year the show was judged by Barbara Traficonte of Waterford, Maine. Barbara graduated from Douglass College Rutgers University with a degree in Fine Arts and Art Education. For many years Barbara has taught children and adults in a variety of mediums. Her own pastels, oils, and watercolors are shown locally and in Camden, Maine and reside in many international collections. She has judged numerous art shows.
Cindy Spencer received first place for her watercolor entitled "Sunflowers." (See photo) Barbara commented on the "good presentation" of the work and the composition being "spot on." "Forest Retreat" won second place by Anne Bernard for her "interesting use of encaustic". Carol Rhoads piece "Mother and Child" received third place. There are many other fine works of art to see in the show which will be up until the end of May. Donna Kantor won the People's Choice!
