Inspired by the Art in Bloom show at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, members of the Lakeside Garden Club collaborate with Gallery 302 artists to mount their own version of the popular exhibit. In the summer , when local gardens are usually at their prime, pieces of art in the gallery are selected from all of the different mediums, including paintings, jewelry, pottery, woodwork, glass and other 3-D art, to be the inspiration for 10 floral displays.
Of interest to families are kids' activities, a special youth art exhibit with an accompanying floral design by a young designer, and an opportunity to vote for the favorite floral design. A "fancy tea party" afternoon reception is held for the public to meet the participating artists and flower arrangers.
Ten teams of gardeners have two weeks to design their arrangements, choose plant materials, and create their floral responses to the art pieces. The resulting exhibit is a lively display of color, design, wit, and creativity.
Because of the transient nature of the plant materials, the exhibit lasts only two days, but on the Saturday of the show the garden club and Gallery 302 host a “fancy” tea. It is a hat and glove affair when artists, gardeners, and gallery visitors can celebrate the creations of the summer season.
